Currently, knowledge management (KM) is mentioned and widely accepted worldwide because of the high competition in the market. Knowledge management (KM) was developed from the problem of knowledge loss in case of the high turnover rate or retirement of employee. It highly impacts to the organizational operation and performance. The former concept of human resource development that only creates more knowledge to employees is not enough. The question is how to sustain individual knowledge and allow the organization learns at the same time. Thus, knowledge management (KM) becomes an answer to this problem because it is related to learning organization (LO). Knowledge management helps organization to systematically manage internal knowledge and continuously supports employees in learning.
Due to the demand of knowledge management implementation, some organizations adopted it by themselves while the others have consultant helping them. Knowledge Management Professional Center Asia (KMPCA) was founded to provide completed KM solutions. Knowledge management methodology of KMPCA will use standard knowledge management theories together with best practices to create competitive advantage to customer. The main objective of our methodology is to convert tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge. Our methodology will consist of the process of knowledge capture to extract knowledge from knowledge workers and documentation for easily retrieving. Thus, knowledge is still being in the organization if knowledge workers left the organization.
The KM implementation process begins with the collection of data and information for analyzing organizational culture, structure, size, working process, and all related factor in managing specified knowledge in order to understand the detail of Implementation Plan and prepare an Assessment and Gap Identification Report and Knowledge Map. Then, we will design a concept and structure of knowledge management, capture knowledge from experts by knowledge capture team. A Knowledge Capturing Report is derived from this step. After that, the summary result report of CoPs and Knowledge Model Creation is prepared. The pilot test in different scenario of best practice creating from knowledge capture process is performed. Finally, we will organize a training course for knowledge engineer to develop skills and competencies of effectively and efficiently managing organizational knowledge.
